Breakbulk Asia regional focus highlights 3PL opportunities

One of the panel topics at the Breakbulk Asia Transportation Conference &Exhibition 26-27 January in Singapore will be a regional market focus on Australia. This panel will highlight the tremendous freight forwarding opportunities fueled by $A112.5 billion of minerals and energy projects in Australia.

Panel moderator Kevin Stephens, based in Brisbane,Australia, and General Manager of Project Professionals Group,a heavy-lift 3PL network, said the $43 billion Gorgon liquefied natural gas project on Barrow Island off Western Australian alone offers project cargo specialists enormous potential as the single-largest project undertaken in Australia’s resource sector.

“The sheer size and scope of the Barrow Island project will generate some lively discussion regarding the challenges of being involved in this development and meeting the project’s logistics requirements,” Mr. Stephens said. “I would encourage those involved in project cargo not to miss this session during Breakbulk Asia as the international and domestic Australian Integrated Logistics Services contract for the Barrow Island LNG Plant is estimated at $A590 million over four years and is expected to ship materials in excess of 2 million freight tons.”

The Gorgon Gas Project is one of 12 proposed LNG projects in Australia and Papua New Guinea. Mr. Stephens said other major projects underway in Australia include the nation’s longest road tunnel project in Brisbane, and plans for a $A4 billion port and rail development at Oakajee in Western Australia.

He said $A5.3 billion is committed for power supply projects, particularly renewable energy.

Mr. Stephens said the Asia Pacific logistics market would be discussed as a case study during The Certificate of Achievement in Project Cargo Management course to be held in Singapore from 28-29 January,2010,following the Breakbulk Asia Conference.
